Pros and Cons of Immigrating to Canada
Immigration to Canada is a whole new experience which is scary and surprising at the same time. Knowing that you have family in the country is less nerve racking than not having a family here at all. I mean think about how one must feel when they immigrate to a totally different country only knowing the language that they spoke back home. Not knowing what future awaits them in such an urbanized country. Fear, tension and confusion starts to build up. This causes hardships and which pressures the immigrant to adapt quickly to a whole new environment.
The person I interviewed was my Uncle. He was born in Congo, Africa and immigrated to Canada in the year of 1986, seeking new opportunities and a better quality of life. Doing so he had to face many hardships, like undergoing the adjustment of a completely different environment. Finding new job opportunities and settling down, with the support of some family already in Canada, making it through and becoming a successful immigrant seemed like anything but the impossible. Immigrating to Canada was a decision that was taken in order for him to have a better life for himself and his wife along with his future kids. Canada is booming with several opportunities, after all it is an industrialized nation, Canada offers unlimited opportunity. It has one of the highest standards of living and is one of the richest countries in the world that keeps on getting better! Knowing this, what immigrant wouldn’t want to come to Canada?
Now you know why people immigrate to Canada, but as a result is it really a suitable choice? Well after asking the expert himself, my uncle, he concluded that, coming to Canada made all the difference. This was because he was able to fully utilize his education and skills with no limitations and a try democratic sense. One may find adapting to the culture and lifestyle of Canada difficult. For my uncle it was a major culture shock, every step of the way was difficult and it was a definite struggle. He basically had to try and accommodate to the new environment. With all the change and Canada being so receptive to the immigrants, it has made a big impact in the life of a typical Indian immigrant. Canada has a good combination of immigrant program, that help the immigrants blend into their surroundings. One way Canada is not able to blend the immigrants into the environment is by adapting to the cold winters. Coming from hot weather, my uncle had found the weather extremely cold. It was a very big shock, as he wasn’t prepared for the extreme cold weather because he was never exposed to such extreme weather. As most immigrants come to Canada seeking job opportunities, in order to find work one has to upgrade his or her skills in order to adapt to the working environment and becoming accepting in the job market. To conclude I asked my uncle, would advising families and friends to immigrate to Canada be a wise decision? In my uncle’s opinion advising the relatives or friends to visit Canada before immigrating to Canada would be the best way to verify their decision.
