Someone can be a Feminist and Pro Life at the same Time

I would have to say yes since I’m married to a wonderful woman that is definitely a feminist, but is also very proud of the fact that she’s pro-life. Why should the terms be mutually exclusive?

Over the course of the past hundred years women have been gradually narrowing the gap with men. You can vote, in any election. You can serve in the military in virtually every job men have (short of most ground combat jobs, but that’s only a matter of time). The glass ceiling is being chipped away at (it’s still not broken, but it’s only a matter of time) and a woman is only a few super-delegates away from being the next President of the United States. We even have female race car drivers! Things couldn’t be better for the fairer gender!

However, for some reason the concept of being a feminist means that you’re completely resistant to any form of male control. Some of the more extremist women (or would it be that new term “womyn”?) think that they shouldn’t let men hold doors open for them, they should have any job that a man has at higher pay and that they should defy any legislation created by men that has to do with their bodies. They see being “pro-choice” as being in complete control over all of their inner workings.

In today’s society no one is saying that you can’t be a strong independent woman with an amazing career, a fast car, a hefty bank account and a family. Children should be seen as a blessing; not as a legal decision or a liability imposed upon you by some MAN. You can have it both ways. You can have a man treat you as an equal, yet still hold the door open for you. You can pay for lunch, but have your male date hold the chair for you when you sit down. You can be a powerful woman that respects LIFE.

Now, throwing the whole religious argument out (because I know my wife would) let’s just look at the concept of being pro-choice: It means that you have no problem with a woman being able to walk into a sterile clinic with a life inside of her and then walk out with the life chewed up, half dissolved, in a bag marked “biohazard”.

Does being a feminist mean that you automatically think that’s a good idea? I hope not.
