Stereotypes in Todays Society
This world we live in is full of hysterically ignorant stereotypes of all sorts. The thing is that more than half this world goes by these stereotypes. Naming stereotypes can be an all day event so we’re going to name some of the more widely recognized ones. One of the most known stereotypes is the one where all Americans are obese, rude, and extremely arrogant. You have one where they think that most Mexicans live four people to a room in most houses and they all came here illegally. There’s the stereotype that all Asians are short, eat raw fish and run hair and nail shops. You got the one where people think that all Black Americans are great athletes, eat watermelons and love fried chicken. You also have the one which claims Middle Eastern people are terrorists and suicide bombers also. Then you have the one where most Caucasian Americans are born with money, can’t jump and bleach their hair.
Here are a couple everyone recognizes. All over weight people eat alot and most skinny Caucasians are anorexics. There’s the one where most Africans have AIDS and live in poverty or most Indians own gas stations and smell like curry. You got the one where people think New Yorker’s are rude and obnoxious or the one when people think that all southern country folks are gullible, hospitable and talk slow. As said before, there are countless stereotypes like the one where all Russians river dance and drink vodka or all Native Americans own casinos and are in touch with the spirits of the Earth. Then you have the one where if you’re homosexual you act or portray yourself as a woman. You also have the stereotype where if a woman wears men’s clothing and play sports she is a lesbian. You have the one where if a Black American man is wearing baggy clothing and dreadlocks he’s a drug dealer. There’s one where if a Caucasian American is wearing flannel shirts, chews tobacco and drives an American pickup truck that they are rednecks. Stereotypes like the ones where all Swedish women are models, Japanese people are all geniuses, English people have bad teeth, Italians dine exclusively on pasta, Mexicans can’t speak English, all Caucasian Americans eat mayonnaise, can’t dance and all Asians know a form of martial arts is sadly the part of everyday thoughts in our oh so cruel world. Stereotypes are ignorant, but in the mind of alot of people in our societies they are ever so true.
