The American Dream is not always a Reality for some Americans

The American dream beckoned the immigrants to come to the land of opportunity and the land that offered freedom. Yet, this opportunity and freedom was not freely granted to everyone that crossed the shores into America. The Africans were imported as slaves, as chattel and forced to help the dreams of the new immigrants come true. Certainly in this new found land, the opportunities and the dream was denied to the slaves from Africa from the time they arrived in America.

For some people the America dream may be owning their own home or land. Still, some may believe the American dream may be providing a good education for their children. The American dream encompasses many hopes and desires for a bright future.

The American dream is considered to be the traditional social ideals of the North American, such as equality, democracy and the material prosperity of all Americans. Everyone wants to live the American dream in their waking hours. Tragically in our current condition, the dream may have turned into a nightmare for many Americans, the ninety-nine percent.

The Native Americans recognized the vast richness of America and treated their beloved country with love and respect. It seems the American dream was closed to the native Americans as they were forced to leave their lands to live on reservations and often forced to adapt the religion of the European immigrants. It’s apparent the indigenous people of America never dreamed their land would be taken from them. The native American people were a matrilineal society. While, the Europeans were a patriarchal society. These differences in cultures may have caused  strains in the relationship between native Americans and the immigrant Europeans. Hence, the land of opportunity may have been seen differently from the female perspective.

During the end of the fifteenth century, the immigration of the Europeans and the importation of African slaves to America has led to centuries of conflict and betrayal of the so-called ‘American Dream’. This American dream was elusive to the native Americans, also known as the indigenous people of North America.

The Dream act, (an acronym for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) was first introduced in the Senate on August 1, 2001 as an American legislative proposal. This bill provides conditional, permanent residency to certain undocumented residents of good moral character, who have graduated from U.S. high schools and may have later gone on to obtain degrees in college, or may have served two years in the military. After six years, these illegal immigrants may be eligible for permanent residency. This is indeed the American dream for these immigrants.

The American dream is open to anyone willing to make sacrifices for their dream. The immigrants of today are working hard to prove their good characters for the enrichment of America.
