Britain is old Fashioned - Yes
I believe that old fashioned values are deeply sewed into the British culture. And who could blame them? A nation with hundreds of years of history and development should not be critisized for it. England is on top of the developed countries list. It has infrastructure that works well and communications systems which are some of the best in the world. However a country is made up of people and if the people have a low standard of living and are unhappy the above will not mean much. Although England is a so called “western” cultured country their hyarchial system of one man/woman being at the top of the command chain of the country is suggestive of some eastern cultures which were ruled by kings and queens. But maybe that’s just me.But maybe im the only one that sees similarities there.
I don’t think that the differences between Britain and some eastern cultures should be so well drawn out because although the GDP of say Russia may be lower than England let’s not forget that Russia too had a royal family at some point in history. Like most other countries in Europe ofcorse.
However the Royal family is not the only measure of how old fashioned a country is or isn’t. I believe that the cultural belief of who and how quickly someone could move up the ladder of life and how high up one can get based on their family background or social status should be the primary measure of exactly how progressive the collective public attitude is. The American dream is in the center of American culture. The majority of people believe they can make a great success of their lives no matter what their past or present situation is and was.Of coarse the reality may be a little different and perhaps not as simple as most Americans believe it is but the important thing 90% of people believe in the same fundamental principal of success. And right away we see a contrast between the USA and Britain. In Britain just like in the USA there are certain social classes however how can a commoner move up through these social classes is different in the US than in Britain. Certain people in England still believe that if you were not born into a certain social class you should not be able to live in that particular social class no matter how much money you have.
